It’s time to get out and explore the city’s many trails with your dog, but have you remembered to bring bags with you to clean up after them? If not, don’t worry. The municipality has installed many bag dispensers along its trails. You will also find garbage cans to dispose of the bags.

Unfortunately, however, many people are still not obeying the city’s bylaw requiring them to clean up after their dog, and many are leaving their bags on the trails. This poses a significant problem along the Riverfront Trail that runs between Fox Point and the Dieppe/Moncton boundary.

Dog excrement is a serious environmental problem, especially along waterways. Also, contrary to popular belief, most bags are not biodegradable. Therefore, this issue needs to be addressed as soon as possible.

With that in mind, the City wants to better understand why dog owners are not always picking up after their dogs, hence the reason for this public consultation.
