Outdoor fires can be very enjoyable and allow people to share good times with family and friends. However, they can also a pose a safety risk in some cases, such as when they are located too close to a building or are left to burn without adult supervision. The smoke they produce can also create serious discomfort for people with respiratory or heart conditions.

Outdoor fires in Dieppe have been regulated by a municipal bylaw since 2008, with a view to protecting public health and safeguarding the built environment. Residents generally comply with the bylaw. To meet the needs of all residents, it was decided that outdoor wood fires would be permitted only during the summer months.

However, with the health controls in effect due to the pandemic, City Council has received a request from residents to allow outdoor wood fires year-round and to revisit the bylaw prohibiting such fires from November 1 to the third Monday of April.

Given the community's involvement in the initial development of the bylaw in 2008, City Council wishes to consult with the public before making any changes to the document.

    I strongly encourage any municipality to ban outside fires all year around. Thought residents can easily contain fires on their properties with fire pits, no one can contain the smoke that they’re creating with their fires.

    I’ve personally had to call the Fire Department several times for a problematic resident on our street who used to brag to his neighbors that he “likes to make fires like at Fundy Park.”.     While many would disagree with me I think there should only be wood fires in late fall and the winter (mid October until the end of March). There are many reasons for this. As someone who has a two story house and no air conditioning by choice, my house is filled with smoke a lot in the summer from wood fires. I like to leave my windows open for fresh air, for a cooling breeze, etc. On hot muggy days and low pressure days the smoke does not dissipate and simply lingers over the neighborhood.     your asking about are opinion about fire pits year round, my opinion with fire pits being so close to other residential houses, when it’s not burning hot enough we get smokes and when there no smoke the fire is so high you question the safety of are house.
    I see some using washer tub for there pit that make me question if they are registering and know the safety protocol to use it proper.
